Statistics from the National Assessment of Education Progress (NAEP) show a decline in U.S. test scores starting around 2012, about the time that smartphone use became widespread.

Many schools have implemented usage bans over the past 1-2 years

Usage Ban: Students are allowed to keep their phones with them, but they are prohibited from using them during class. Usage Bans typically permit students to use phones between class breaks and during lunch.
